01792 476 562Your first visit will normally take between 30 to 45 minutes. It is a longer length of appointment to allow your Chiropractor to first take a detailed history of your complaint, as well as any relevant medical history, then perform a thorough examination including orthopaedic and neurological testing. Based on this we will either put together a tailored treatment plan for you or refer you to your GP or other health professional should we (or you) decide that Chiropractic treatment is not suitable.
Before starting treatment, your Chiropractor will explain your condition to you in detail so that you understand fully what is going on with your body and why you are currently experiencing the issues that brought you in to see us. Your Chiropractor will then comprehensively explain your proposed treatment plan including what you should likely be experiencing during and after your treatment session. Included in this will be your expected timescale for reaching your goals whether that be simply pain management or care of a more preventative nature. You will then begin your treatment that same session, assuming that you would like to proceed and that you are happy with how everything has been explained to you.
Your treatment will be tailored to you and your specific issue. Generally speaking, treatment would tend to involve trying to ease any painful soft-tissue structures using a variety of techniques such as massage or dry-needling (acupuncture) after which, and if appropriate, specific areas of the spine (or relevant joints) may be manipulated or mobilised. This does not mean to say that everybody who comes to see us will have manipulation, we completely understand that some people may prefer a more soft tissue based form of treatment. Ultimately all of your wishes in that regard will be taken into consideration before any treatment begins anyway. In conjunction with this your Chiropractor will tailor a specific rehabilitation program for you to help with your long-term healing process.
